About Karen Lum

I first became a UX Designer before I even owned my first smartphone. Back then, there was no way to learn UX except to figure it out on your own, read books about human-computer interaction, pay strict attention to apps/websites/software, and eat grit for breakfast. (That’s right, GRIT, not grits.)

So after graduating from Stanford University where I studied at the d*School, I taught myself enough UX to land my first UX job at Intuit, then Apigee, and eventually became a full-time freelancer.

Fast forward 8 years, I absolutely love teaching UX. It's my mission to share my knowledge with newcomers and help you develop the UX career of your dreams.

I founded Create with Karen Lum because I’ve taught and interviewed 100+ designers, and know what they want to learn next to level up. I’m SO passionate about helping young designers, especially women and people of color. So it’s my pleasure and my privilege to be here. I’m way too excited for this!

Creatively yours,
Karen Lum
