I first became a UX Designer…
before I even owned my first smartphone. I’ve been in this game for a minute. Back then, there was no way to learn UX except to figure it out on your own, read books about human-computer interaction, pay strict attention to apps/websites/software, and eat grit for breakfast. (That’s right, GRIT, not grits lol.)
So after graduating from Stanford University where I studied at the d*School, I taught myself enough UX to land my first UX job at Intuit, then Apigee, and eventually became a full-time freelancer.
Fast forward 8 years from the day I discovered UX, I love this craft more than ever. Moreover, I ABSOLUTELY 👏 LOVE 👏 TEACHING 👏UX. It's my mission to share my knowledge with newcomers and help you develop the UX career of your dreams.
I teach for Ironhack and General Assembly in Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Miami, Atlanta, and San Francisco. If enough of you ask, I’ll come teach in your hometown too. 😊 I’m a modern-day nomad, and I’ll go wherever the wind blows, wherever the UX needs UX-ing.
Create with Karen Lum are my OWN UX Design classes, based 100% on feedback from UX designers. I’ve interviewed 100+ designers on what skills they feel they’re lacking and what they want to learn next to help them level up. Best of all, since my classes are now available online, whether you’re in Beirut, Fargo, or Lagos, you can Create with Karen Lum. I’m SO passionate about helping young designers, especially women and people of color, build their careers. So it’s my pleasure and my privilege to be here. I’m WAY TOO EXCITED for this. 🙌
